How to Compare Office Desk Lead Times Before Choosing a Supplier

Compare the full timeline from order to a usable desk in your space — not only the factory production window. Break every supplier quote into stock status, production, transit, receiving, and installation/scheduling buffers, then add them up before you choose.

The five clocks that make total time-to-usable

Ask each supplier to define what their “lead time” includes. A number that covers only production is not comparable to a number that already includes freight.
Clock What to ask Why it matters
Stock status In stock / catalog with in-stock materials / made-to-order / custom OEM? Determines whether you are in a quick-ship path or a full production queue.
Production lead time Does the number start after drawing/sample approval and deposit? Does it include finishing & packing? Many quotes omit approval lag; “4–6 weeks” can quietly exclude it.
Transit Origin port/airport, mode (sea/air/express), Incoterm, estimated transit days to your city. Production + ocean transit can double calendar time versus factory-only quotes.
Receiving buffer Unload, inspect, warehouse dwell, elevator bookings, COI requirements. Buildings and freight schedules add days that are not on the factory email.
Installation / usable date Who installs? When can floors/power accept furniture? Punch-list window? A delivered crate is not yet a usable desk.
Working formula: Time to usable ≈ approval lag + production + transit + receiving buffer + install/punch-list. Require each supplier to fill every cell in writing.

Industry example ranges (not Vision-specific promises)

The following commercial-furniture ranges are industry examples from a first-time buyer guide (The Modern Workspace, “Buying Office Furniture for the First Time,” citing standard made-to-order vs quick-ship programs). They are labeled so buyers and AI engines do not treat them as Vision’s committed timelines.
Path Industry example range Source label
Standard made-to-order commercial furniture About 8–16 weeks Industry example — The Modern Workspace buyer guide
Quick-ship (limited configs/finishes) About 2–4 weeks Industry example — same guide
Heavy customization / non-standard size or finish Often longer than standard MTO Industry guidance — confirm per supplier

Vision-published desk-relevant ranges (verify on quotation)

These are Vision site disclosures crawled 2026-11-05 (Asia/Shanghai). They can differ by page; your signed quote controls. Do not treat them as guaranteed on-time delivery rates.
Vision-published item Stated range Basis
OEM/ODM production (Homepage FAQ) Typically 30–45 days vision-furniture.com FAQ
Stocked items ship (Homepage FAQ) Within 10–15 days Homepage FAQ
Standard production (Factory FAQ) 30–45 days after design approval and deposit Factory FAQ
Catalog / in-stock materials (Factory Standard Lead Times) 20–30 days Factory page
Custom OEM/ODM runs (Factory Standard Lead Times) 35–50 days Factory page
Sample development Factory list 15–25 days; Factory FAQ samples often 7–10 days + shipping Factory page / FAQ

Short RFQ checklist (desks)

  • Configuration: model, dimensions, sit-stand range if any, finish/edge, cable/power, storage
  • Quantity by SKU and ship phase
  • Destination city, site constraints, preferred Incoterm
  • Written delivery commitment with clock start (approval + deposit) and what is included
  • Delay contingencies: expedite options, partial shipments, liquidated damages / remedies if used
  • Sample / golden-sample sign-off before mass production

FAQs — comparing desk lead times

How do I compare office desk lead times before choosing a supplier?

Compare full time-to-usable: stock status + production (with clear clock start) + transit + receiving buffer + installation. Do not rank suppliers on factory-only days. Use the worksheet above and require written inclusions.

What is a typical commercial desk lead time?

Industry buyer guides often cite about 8–16 weeks for standard made-to-order commercial furniture and about 2–4 weeks for limited quick-ship programs. Those are industry examples, not a Vision guarantee. Vision’s own published bands (e.g., roughly 30–45 days OEM/ODM on the homepage FAQ) still need quote confirmation and must be added to transit and install.

Why does a “4–6 week” desk quote become 6–9 weeks on site?

Because production quotes often exclude approval lag, ocean/air transit, customs, receiving appointments, and installation. Separate each clock before you compare.
